DUSHANBE, July 5, 2011, Asia-Plus – Prosecutor’s office in Shouroobod district jointly with the Kulob garrison military prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against three border officers, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports.

Ghiyosiddin Umarov, chief prosecutor of Shouroobod district, told RFE/RL’s Tajik Service that the incident took place Monday evening.

Three border officers holding the rank of Major reportedly severely beat five residents of the village of Poruvor, including two members of the local council and one woman.

Moreover, one of the officers threatening a man, who was on a visit to his relatives in Poruvor, with weapon took 850 somoni and mobile phone from him.

Investigation is under way, the prosecutor said.
