QURGHON TEPPA, July 13, 2011, Asia-Plus — A court in Khatlon’s Danghara district is currently considering criminal proceedings for nonpayment of wages to 105 builders of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

Abduvali Kenjayev, a chief aide to the Danghara prosecutor, says criminal proceedings have been instituted against Innokenty Kim, director general of SredAzGESStroy (company engaged in construction of hydropower facilities in Central Asia), following applications by 105 builders.

“SredAzGESStroy was engaged in construction of Sangtuda-1 HPP and the company did not pay wages to 105 builders for two months,” said Kenjayev.  “Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Kim under the provisions of Article 151 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – untimely payment of wages.”

A total amount of the wage debts was 510,000 somoni.  Kim, however, repaid the wage debts during the preliminary investigation.

The Danghara court is expected to deliver verdict on this case within the next few day, the prosecutor added.
