DUSHANBE, July 19, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan and Switzerland have signed a government-to-government agreement on trade and economic cooperation, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT).

The agreement was signed in Dushanbe recently.  The document was inked by Farrukh Hamraliyev, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and Stephan Nellen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

MEDT says Switzerland is one of the main trade partners of Tajikistan.  According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Switzerland in January-June 2011 has valued at little more than US$32 million, which is three times than in the same period last year.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Switzerland estimated at US$29 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Switzerland worth more than US$3 million.
