DUSHANBE, August 22, 1011, Asia-Plus – The Government of Japan is continuing to provide assistance to Tajikistan.

On August 17, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Suhrob Okhunov, Chairman of Kuhistoni Mastchoh District, signed a grant contract for “Project for Construction of Secondary School in Rogif village, Ivan-Tojik Jamoat, Kuhistoni Mastchoh district,” the Japanese Embassy reports.

According to press release, the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) will support to construct secondary school No.8 in Rogif village, Ivan-Tojik jamoat of Kuhistoni Mastchoh district for the total amount of US$111,604.

Schoolchildren of first to fourth grades currently study at an old storage with overcrowded small rooms as the village does not have any school facility in the village. Due to lack of space in the building, school children of fifth to eleventh grades have to go to school in neighboring village. This condition has seriously affected safety of school children and quality of education in the area.

In the framework of the project, a new school building with six classrooms will be constructed in Rogif village. After the project implementation, more than 250 school children will be able to have access to the improved educational environment.

On August 19, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama and Mr. Abdullo Hakimov, Chairman of Fayzobod District, signed a grant contract for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Central Hospital in Fayzobod District” for the total amount of 111,352 US$, which is supported by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Constructed in 1975, the roof of the hospital remained without renovation even after total rehabilitation of internal and external parts of the building in 2010. The extremely old roof of the hospital has brought a water leak which has made the hospital difficult to provide appropriate medical service.  Moreover, lack of medical equipment in surgical department has seriously affected to quality of medical treatment.

Through the project, the rehabilitation of all roof of the main building of the central hospital will be conducted. In addition, seven new medical devices including electro coagulator, artificial lung ventilator and operation table will be provided to the surgical department of the hospital. As a result of the project, patients will be able to obtain appropriate treatment in a safe environment. Consequently, improvement of medical condition of the hospital will promote provision of quality medical service to the people in Fayzobod district.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 19.8 million for 271 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.
