DUSHANBE, August 29, 2011, Asia-Plus — On Saturday August 27, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Ms. Davlatbibi Rajabova, First Deputy Chairperson of Vanj district, attended a handover ceremony of a project at Secondary School No.5 in Vanj district, Gorno Badakhshan.
According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, “The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No.5 in Vanj Jamoat, Vanj District” with the total amount of US$105,662 supported by the Government of Japan within the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully implemented.
The facility of secondary school No.5, which was constructed in 1974, was affected by huge earthquakes occurred in 2008 and 2010. Due to earthquakes and aging facilities, the school has suffered from water leaking, floor crumbling and damaged wall. The condition of the school was unfit for school education and there was anxiety about the safety of the students.
In the framework of this project, two school buildings including the renovation of roof, doors and windows were rehabilitated comprehensively. In addition, educational equipment such as desks, chairs as well as blackboards was provided. After implementation of the project, more than 452 students will have an access to appropriate and safe educational environment. Moreover, the project will promote to increase the educational level of Vanj district of GBAO.
The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) provides support to projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. The GGP is provided to local governments, NGOs, and educational and medical institutions in developing countries. Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 19.8 million for 271 projects in Tajikistan.
