DUSHANBE, September 13, 2011, Asia-Plus – Under support of the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF-Tajikistan) and the United Nations, Asian and Pacific Training Center for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT), the Association of Internet-Providers of Tajikistan is presenting modules of APCICT’s Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in Tajik in Dushanbe.

According to OSI/AF-Tajikistan, the main objective of the event is in promoting development of potential of local experts and public servants on introduction of elements of electronic government in Tajikistan.

The biggest challenge facing the developing countries of the Asia-Pacific countries in introducing digital technologies in all spheres of life is not the technologies themselves, nor issues associated with infrastructure, connectivity or access, but the fact that most countries in the region lack the technical human capital that is required to make a go of these tools and technologies.  UN-APCICT”s modular training program targeting government leaders will go a long way towards their understanding of the role that these new technologies can play in meeting national development needs in education, health, good governance, business, trade and much more.

The Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders includes a comprehensive eight-module ICTD training curriculum and over a dozen partners that are working with APCICT to roll out the Academy at the national level:

Module1 – The Linkage between ICT Applications and Meaningful Development;

Module2 – ICT for Development Policy, Process and Governance;

Module3 – e-Government Applications;

Module4 – ICT Trends for Government Leaders;

Module5 – Internet Governance;

Module6 – Network and Information Security and Privacy;

Module7 – ICT Project Management in Theory and Practice;

Module8 – Options for Funding ICT for Development.
