DUSHANBE, February 1, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The Sughd prosecutor’s office has launched a probe into alleged corruption in organizing the 2011 Hajj in the province.

The investigation has been launched following a letter by local lawyer Istadmurod Akramov about alleged involvement of a group of local officials in corruption in the 2011 Hajj arrangements, Ms. Donokhon Jourayeva, a chief aide to the Sughd prosecutor, told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon.

According to her, the probe was launched on January 30 and the probe findings will be published.

Meanwhile, the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption has confirmed the information about alleged corruption in arranging the Hajj 2011 in northern Tajikistan.

In his letter, Istadmurod Akramov named names of representatives from the district and city administrations involved in the hajj scam.
