LONDON, February 21, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The founding meeting of the Board of Guardians of the British-Tajik Society took place in London last week.

The main objective of this organization is in involving the British public in the process of acquainting with our country in order to provide further strengthening of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom and creation of a constant exchange between representatives of culture, education and business communities of the two countries.

This organization was established on an initiative of the Tajik Embassy in Dushanbe, the first charitable institution of fellow-countrymen abroad, Tajikinvest, and the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) international development charity.

The meeting endorsed the preliminary composition of the Society board, which includes a number of known British public figures.  Baroness Vivien Helen Stern, Member of the British House of Lords also a member of the UK Parliament’s All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Tajikistan, was elected to head the Society board.

Besides, the chairperson of the British-Tajik Society and his deputy were elected.

In addition to organizational issues, the meeting also discussed a schedule of events that will take part in Great Britain to celebrate the Navrouz holiday.

Three cultural events dedicated to acquaint the British with Tajikistan and Tajik culture are expected to take place in London next month. A festive reception will be held on March 24 under support of the Tajikinvest charitable institution and Tajikistan’s Trade Representation in the United Kingdom, a business-networking party will take place at EBRD Headquarters on March 22, and the Samarqand Restaurant located in downtown London will host a Charitable Dinner Party on March 27.  Funds collected from the charitable dinner will go to supporting children in Tajikistan through the Peshraft public association.
