DUSHANBE, February 29, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The remainder of deposits kept in Tajik banks rose 30.5 percent in a year to January 31, 2012, reaching more than 4.4 billion somoni, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

The volume of deposits in national currency amounted to 1.6 billion somoni and the volume of deposits in foreign currency amounted to little more than 2.8 billion somoni.

Deposits of legal entities amount for 46.7 percent (more than 2 billion somoni) of the overall volume of deposits kept in local banks and deposits of physical entities amount to 53.3 percent (some 2.4 billion somoni).

During the period from January 31, 2011 to January 31, 2012, the weighted interest rate on deposits in national currency amounted to 17.09 percent and the weighted interest rate on the foreign currency deposits amounted to 14.45 percent, the source said.
