The police have arrested Rustam Olimov, former senior prosecutor in ex-deputy of Sughd regional majlis and businessman Nizomkhon Juraev’s case.

Criminal proceedings under article 319 part 4 item “d” of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan (bribery) were launched against Rustam Olimov, former senior prosecutor of the Tajik Prosecutor General’s Office’s Court Decision Control Department (now serving as a lawyer), on May 17, 2012.

According to the State Financial Control and Counter-Corruption Agency, in 2008-2009 Olimov was public prosecutor in #1752 criminal case against Nizomkhon Juraev’s brothers – Fahriddin and Tolib Juraevs (Nizomkhon’s younger brothers).

The trial was presided over by the judge of the Tajik Supreme Court Nur Nurov.

According to the investigation, R.Olimov and other officials colluded with each other agreeing to take a bribe. Following the collusion Olimov met with F.Juraev’s relatives in Dushanbe.

In the course of this meeting they agreed that R.Olimov and N.Nurov will ensure light penalty for Fahriddin and Tolib Juraev’s for a bribe.

As a result, R.Olimov received a $350.000 bribe through a series of persons, including his brother P.Olimov.

At the moment R.Olimov and other persons involved in this case remain in custody.
