Court proceedings against Jurabek Ohonov, a 53-year-old director of the Movarounahr company, are coming to a close. On May 25 public prosecutor demanded 17 years in jail for Ohonov asking the court to find him guilty.

Additionally, public prosecutor offered the company to sell part of its property and repay the funds to investors.

The verdict will be announced next week following the hearing of arguments.

J.Ohonov is charged of fraud, illegal entrepreneurship and causing damage to private property through abuse of trust.

Director General of the Movarounahr company Jurabek Ohonov was arrested in November 2010. New facts, which were revealed in the course of investigation procedures, were later compiled into one process. “For instance, it was revealed that more than 850.000 Somoni, which were provided by Tajiksugurta for construction of several objects in a series of regions of the country, were misappropriated by the director of the company. As it has been revealed in the course of the audit, the funds were spent for personal needs,” Tajik Prosecutor General’s Office reported.

Additionally, the company misappropriated more than 7.4mln Somoni which were allocated by the Islamic Development Bank for the construction of health center in Dangara region.

However, lawyer Shuhrat Kudratov said that the Movarrounahr company has stopped its activity in November 2010 following Ohonov’s arrest and could not complete the construction of objects for Tajiksugurta. According to the contract, these objects were expected to become operational in late 2010.

“This is why the construction of these objects was not completed. Construction works were seized shortly after Ohonov’s arrest. The remaining funds were spent for the purchase of construction materials which are currently stored in the company’s warehouses,” he said.

In February this year court proceedings were postponed due to deteriorated mental condition of Mr.Ohonov. Following medical examination in early March he was delivered to psychiatric hospital for treatment.

In April this year medical commission found Ohonov absolutely healthy and submitted its report to the Tajik Supreme Court. Thus, court proceedings against Ohonov were resumed in late April.

Since 2005 Movarrounahr company was involved in construction of mortgage houses. However, the company failed to provide all its investors with houses.
