Iran to build huge cement producing factory in Tajikistan

Tajik Minister of Energy and Industry Gul Sherali, who is currently visiting Iran where he is taking part in the work of the Tajik-Iranian intergovernmental commission for trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation, met on Thursday with Iranian officials.

As reported by Tajik Ministry of Energy and Industry, Mr.Sherali met with Iranian Foreign Minister Aliakbar Solehi, Iranian Minister of Industry and Trade Mehdi Gazanfari, Iranian Minister of Energy Majidi Nomju, Oil Minister Ahmad Homidi and other officials.

In the course of these meetings the sides talked about final stages of construction of Sangtuda-2 HPP, preparation of technico-economic (feasibility) study for construction of the 500-kilowatt Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran power line and construction of Ayni HPP.

Additionally, the sides discussed establishment of cooperation on hydrocarbon exploration, establishment of joint oil processing factories and industrial companies in Tajikistan, construction of small HPPs in different regions of Tajikistan.

The sides also discussed construction of the joint cement manufacturing factory in Tajikistan which will be able to produce 2mln tons of cement per year. Tajikistan has already allocated land for the construction site of the given facility. Such cement producing factory will be the first in Tajikistan. Tajikcement state-owned factory is currently the biggest cement producing factory in Tajikistan which was built back in the 50ies of the last century (with estimated capacity of 1.1mln tons of cement per year). The factory, however, is not using its full capacities.

Additionally, the sides have agreed to produce four wheel tractors at the joint Tajik-Iranian company of Tojiron. The factory, which is located in Dushanbe, was producing three wheel tractors and was importing spare parts from Iran. The sides have also agreed to reduce prices for Tojiron’s tractors.

In the course of his visit to Iran Mr.Sherali also met with senior officials of several Iranian companies to discuss opportunities for attraction of investments to Tajikistan’s economy.
