KHUJAND, June 20, 2012, Asia-Plus  — One person was killed and at least four others were injured on June 19 as two cars collided in the Zafarobod district, Sughd province.

An official source at the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd province says the accident took place near the Mehnatobod settlement Tuesday afternoon.  “Alisher Saidov, 24, appeared to have lost control of his Opel and crashed it into Mercedes driven by Ms. Rano Ortiqboyeva, 32,” said the source.  “A baby that was in Ortiqboyeva’s Mercedes died on the way to hospital, while Ortiqboyeva herself and her three passengers, including underage boy, sustained various injuries.”

According to the statistical data from the Sughd traffic police department, 96 traffic accidents have been registered in Sughd province over the first five months of this year.  46 persons have been killed and 97 other persons have been injured in those accidents.
