DUSHANBE, June 25, 2012, Asia-Plus — Two national trainings on „Best practice in methods of social work and psychotherapeutic approaches for drug addicts in the community” and „Supervision of the rehab center staff regarding methodological approaches” for the health professional including narcologists, psychologists, social workers of the Republican Rehabilitation Center in Tangai, Republican Narcological Center and the representatives of the local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working with drug addicts are  organized in Dushanbe from June 25-30, 2012 with support from the EU funded CADAP-5, the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan said.

The seminars are being conducted by the key German experts Gerhard Eckstein, psychologist, Senior consultant for quality assurance and structure of in- and outpatient addiction rehabilitation and Inga Hart, Master of Social Work, Addiction therapist, Caritas Outpatient clinic for adults with addiction disorders, Munich, Germany.

The aim of the first seminar in Dushanbe is to make the national specialists familiar with basic approaches of social work and psychotherapeutic approaches for drug addicts considered as best practice within the European Union.

The second training, which is taking place at the Republican Rehabilitation Center in Tangai, focused on putting these theoretical approaches into practice.  In the course of the training the specialists from Tangai is identifying, discussing and developing strategies together with the European experts in order to cope with difficulties which may arise in day-to-day rehabilitation work.

20 participants working in the area of rehabilitation of drug addicts are being trained in methods of social work and psychotherapeutic approaches for drug addicts in the community.  Furthermore, an intended outcome of the seminars is to strengthen the relations between European experts and the national experts working in the field of addiction treatment, rehabilitation and counseling.

In the course of the training the CA experts together with the EU experts will identify further needs for training and procurements in the area of community-based treatment.

This activity is implemented in the framework of the TREAT Component of the Central Asian Drug Action Program (CADAP-5).  CADAP is funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium of EU Member States led by GIZ.
