By order of the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan, all road services in the country have been switched to a round-the-clock mode of operation. A working group has also been created in the Ministry of Transport under the leadership of Deputy Minister Boboyor Boboyorzoda. This group will promptly respond to possible consequences of bad weather, monitor the condition of roads, and ensure the safe transportation of passengers and cargo.
The Ministry of Transport also warns drivers about the risk of emergencies on the roads and recommends strictly following traffic rules, maintaining a safe distance, and being especially cautious in mountainous areas where mudflows may occur.
Earlier, the country’s Agency for Hydrometeorology (Hydromet) reported a deterioration in weather conditions in the country from May 18 to 20: precipitation is expected, river water levels are predicted to rise, mudflows, as well as a decline in air quality in certain regions.
Meteorologists note that on May 18 and 19, water levels are expected to rise in the Zeravshan, Obihingob, Vakhsh, Yahsu, Kyzylsu (southern), as well as in rivers flowing from the southern slopes of the Gissar Range, due to precipitation.
A light rain is expected tomorrow in Dushanbe.
From May 18, an increase in air pollution levels with suspended particles (dust), particles of 10 microns (PM-10), and particles of 2.5 microns (PM-2.5) is expected in the southern cities and regions of the Khatlon area.
The cause will be a dust storm and haze coming from the south and southwest.
Citizens are advised to take precautions during adverse weather conditions, avoid dangerous areas near rivers and mudflow channels, and if air quality worsens, to stay indoors as much as possible.
