DUSHANBE, July 6, 2012, Asia-Plus  — On the sidelines of the 6th Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with the President of South Korea Lee Myung-bak and the Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Hwang-sik in Seoul, Korea on July 5.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea were a major topic of the talks.

The sides, in particular, noted that despite positive achievements reached in bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries there was considerable room for expansion of economic ties.    

The President of the Republic of Korea is, according to the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, chief executive of the government, commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and the head of state of the Republic of Korea.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea is appointed by the President with the National Assembly”s approval. Unlike prime ministers in the parliamentary system, the Prime Minister of South Korea is not required to be a member of parliament.  The Prime Minister assists the President, supervises ministries, and recommends ministers.  The Prime Minister is the first in the order of succession to discharge the duties of the office of the President as the acting-president should the president be unable to discharge his office.
