DUSHANBE, July 21, 2012, Asia-Plus – More than 80 crimes of terrorist and extremist orientation have been reported in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year, Minister of Interiors Ramazon Rahimov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 20.

According to him, 23 alleged extremist and four suspected terrorists have been detained in the country over the report period.

“Over the same six-month period, officers from the Interior Ministry organized crime control directorate (UBOP) have disclosed five organized crime groups and 47 members of those groups have been detained,” the minister said.

7,952 crimes have been reported in the country in January-June this year, which was 5.6 percent fewer than in the same period last year.  92.5 percent of all the crimes reported over the report period have been solved.

Tajik law enforcement authorities have reportedly sized 1,907 kilograms of narcotics over the report period.  A totaled included 160 kilograms of heroin, 98 kilograms f raw opium and 1,056 kilograms of hashish.

Besides, 911 firearms, including 124 assault rifles, 48 hunting guns, and 390 smooth-bore guns, have been confiscated or voluntarily handed over to police stations across the country over the report period.
