DUSHANBE, July 30, 2012, Asia-Plus – Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier) now owes 276.8 million somoni (equivalent to some 60 million U.S. dollars) to open joint-stock company (OJSC) Sangtudinskaya GES-1, which operates the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant.
According to Barqi Tojik, they have repaid 32.5 million somoni of their debt to OJSC Sangtudinskaya GES-1 over the first six months of this year.
Barqi Tojik is still the only buyer of electricity generated by the Sangtuda-1 station. Barqi Tojik, for its part, sells electricity to domestic customers.
Tajik OJSC Sangtudinskaya GES-1 was established in February 2005 to complete the construction of the Santuda-1 power plant.
Meanwhile, local organizations and enterprises as well residential customers now owe totaling 767.6 million somoni to Barqi Tojik.
Residential customers’ electricity debts have reportedly reached 315.7 million somoni by July 1, 2012. Among the most incorrigible nonpayers are also the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (LRWR) – 196.8 million somoni, and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) – 40.7 million somoni.
