DUSHANBE, August 3, 2012, Asia-Plus — Militant groups in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region are reportedly continuing to lay down weapons.

Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), says two procedures of voluntary surrender of arms took place in Khorog on August 2. “Assault rifles Kalashnikov, disposable grenade launchers Mukha, pistols, shells, hand grenades and other ammunition were handed over to local law enforcement authorities yesterday,” Asadulloyev told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, more than 300 weapons have been voluntarily laid down as part of a truce agreement since August 29, when the process of voluntary surrender of weapons started in the city.

The MoI spokesman notes the process of voluntary surrender of weapons is carried out in the city under an active support of representatives of local public organizations and religious leaders.
