DUSHANBE, September 17, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Over the first eight months of this year, Tajikistan has produced a total of more than 5.9 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars) worth of industrial goods, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Compared to January-August 2011 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods amounted to 117.0 percent.

Over the report period, 570 enterprises (60.2 percent) have exceeded the January-August 2011 production level.  However, there were 112 enterprises, or 112.0 percent of the overall number (947), that were not in operation in January-July 2012.

Processing industry has accounted for 67.6 percent of the overall volume of industrial goods produced over the report period, enterprises producing and distributing electric power, natural gas and water have accounted for 20.1 percent and mining industry has accounted for 12.3 percent.

Of the 89 basic types of industrial products the output of 52 items (58.4 percent) has increased, and the output of 29 items (32.6 percent) has decreased over the report period.  Eight basic types of industrial products (8.0 percent) were not manufactured.

Enterprises subject to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) have produced more than 2.1 billion somoni worth of goods in January-August this year, which is 20.8 percent more than in the same period last year.

Cotton-processing enterprises have produced some 415 million somoni worth of output over the report period, which is 2.4 times more than in January-August 2011.

Enterprises that are not subject to a MoEI have produced more than 905 million somoni worth of goods over the same eight-month period, which is 10.7 percent more than in January-August 2011.
