DUSHANBE, March 13, 2013, Asia-Plus — Visiting President of Austria, Dr. Heinz Fischer, is holding talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today.
The talks will be followed by negotiations in enlarged format. The negotiations are expected to result in signing of a number of cooperation documents and the presidents will give a joint press briefing for journalists.
President Rahmon and President Fischer are also scheduled to inaugurate a business forum for representatives of business communities of Tajikistan and Austria that is also taking place in Dushanbe today.
President Fischer is also scheduled to hold talks with Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov and Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today afternoon.
On March 14, President Heinz Fischer will visit the National Museum of Antiquities and the Central Mosque of the Islamic Center of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.
We will recall that Austrian President Heinz Fischer arrived in Dushanbe on an official two-day visit Tuesday night.
Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Austria were established on March 25, 1992.
The first meeting of the Tajikistan-Austria joint commission for trade and economic cooperation took place in Dushanbe on April 26-28, 2005 and the meeting of representatives of private sector of the two countries was held on November 14-15, 2005.
In 2012, a two-trade between Tajikistan and Austria amounted to 5.1808 million U.S. dollars. Tajikistan’s exports to Austria included cotton fiber and primary aluminum and Tajikistan’s imports from Austria include medicines, medical equipment, sugar, fodder-processing equipment, etc.
