DUSHANBE, May 13, 2013, Asia-Plus  — The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament considered the agricultural risk insurance bill at a May 13 meeting, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov.

The agricultural sector is a major economic sector and a critical source of livelihood in Tajikistan.  Agriculture is particularly exposed to adverse natural events, such as insect damage and poor weather conditions that negatively impact production.  Agricultural insurance is one financial tool that agricultural producers can utilize to mitigate the impacts of unpreventable risks.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, notes the meeting also considered draft laws on biological management and audit activities.

The board also considered bills requiring amendments to the country’s laws on courts, prosecutors, local authority and public health.

All these issues will be considered at a regular sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that will take place on April 15.
