DUSHANBE, May 29, 2013, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday May28, Tajik Minister of Finance, Safarali Najmiddinov, received the newly appointed Director of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB)’s Office in Tajikistan, Rashid Kadyrov.

According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Secretariat, the sides considered issues related to the course of implementation of joint programs and projects in agrarian and energy sectors as well as technical assistance and support to Tajikistan’s budget.

Najmiddinov and Kadyrov, in particular, pointed the necessity of extending the microfinance institutions network in Tajikistan.

The two also discussed modernization of the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and feasibility study for the Central Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA 1000), the MoF Secretariat reports.

The sides also discussed priorities of cooperation this year and issues of coordination of cooperation of Tajikistan with the EDB and other regional and international financial institutions.

Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is an international financial organization founded by Russia and Kazakhstan in 2006. The members of the Bank are Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Belarus (2010). Other states or international organizations can become members by joining the Agreement Establishing the EDB. The Bank has authorized capital in exceeds US$1.5 billion, which was formed of contributions by its member states: Russia (US$1billion), Kazakhstan (US$500 million), Armenia (US$100,000), Tajikistan (US$500,000) and Belarus (US$15 million). The authorized capital may be increased by resolution of the Bank’s Council. The Bank has the status of an international organization, and is subject to international law.
