DUSHANBE, July 16, 2013, Asia-Plus — The EU funded “Rule of Law Platform – Central Asia” Project has organized a “Study Visit to Administrative Courts and Institutions in Latvia, Germany and France and to European Institutions in Strasbourg”, in the framework of the Rule of Law Initiative for Central Asia established by the EU and led by France and Germany, according to press release issued by the European Union.
This study tour is reportedly being held from July 13 to July 20, 2013. The delegation is composed of civil servants involved in the reform of administrative justice, academics, MPs, lawyers, and specialists of administrative law from the Central Asian countries. The objective of this visit is provide exposure to best EU practices, laws and case law in the area of administrative law, in countries with strong administrative law traditions, and to demonstrate the feasibility of the administrative justice reform.
Immediately following the “Study visit to Administrative Courts and Institutions in Latvia, Germany and France and to European Institutions in Strasbourg”, the Platform proposes a second regional activity: a “Research visit on Administrative Law to German Academic Institutions”, a three week training activity from July 22 – August 10. A group of Central Asian specialists will be provided with the opportunity to conduct research at the Max Planck Institute or be “immersed” in other leading EU law academies. The objective of this activity is to train experts who will promote administrative law throughout the Central Asian region.
These two activities are being conducted in partnership with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ GmbH).
A key element of the EU-Central Asia Strategy for a New Partnership, the “Rule of Law Initiative for Central Asia” constitutes the overarching regional framework for enhanced cooperation in the Rule of Law area, aimed at supporting legal reforms in Central Asia and the sharing of EU experience. Under the auspices of the Rule of Law Initiative, the Rule of Law Platform regional project acts as a support mechanism to facilitate policy dialogue and promote the measures contributing to legal reforms in each of the Central Asian countries. The Platform is being funded by the European Union to the sum of EUR 1.8 million.
The European Union is committed to sharing its achievements and its values with countries and peoples beyond its borders. To this end the EU is active in Tajikistan since 1992 and provides approximately EUR 25 million annually in development assistance.
