DUSHANBE, July 22, 2013, Asia-Plus — Over the first six months of this year, Tajik state-run rail company, Tajik Railways, has purchased 150 cargo cars, 15 passenger carriages and three diesel locomotives, Tajik Railways head Amonullo Hukumov announced at a  news conference in Dushanbe on July 22.

Besides, 22 cargo cars and seven passenger carriages have been repaired over the same six-month period.

Tajikistan’s rolling-stock now includes 2,269 cargo cars, 436 passenger carriages and 56 diesel locomotives.

The total length of rails in Tajikistan is more than 950 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways.  At present there are more than 30 railway stations in the republic.

At present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, and Khujand-Saratov) and three domestic routes (Dushanbe-Khujand, Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod and Qurghon Teppa-Kulob).
