Dushanbe. 26 August. “Asia-Plus” – Raghoun power plant constructors announce that it is possible to launch the first two units of the power plant under construction to the east of Dushanbe in the near future.
This was announced recently through news programs of the Tajik state TV channels by Raghoun power plant engineers and constructors. They said: “The two fist units of the Tajik energy giant can be run at low pressure water that is before the dam construction.”
Furthermore, it was also reported that preparation is underway to block Vakhsh River in the place of the future dam. Work is also underway to prepare adequate sand, gravel, and concrete structures supply.
Shadi Shabdalov, Communist Party of Tajikistan Leader, who is a power engineer, believes that launching a Raghoun power plant unit without a dam is ineffective, since they will generate electricity without proper water pressure like small power plants.
Shabdalov said: “Launching Raghoun power plant units without building the necessary dam is not contrary to the agreements between Tajikistan and the World Bank, according to which the World Bank at the request of the Tajik government is funding two key evaluative studies on Raghoun power plant – techno-economic feasibility study and assessment of environmental and social impacts of the Project.”
The Tajik Communist Party Leader stressed that any sane politician, any power engineer understands that it under no circumstance should the height of Raghoun dam should be reduced, since the power plant’s capacity will reduce greatly, cost of waterworks maintenance will increase, and effectiveness of Raghoun dam will decrease for the irrigation of new lands in the Central Asian region will decrease by tenfold.
