DUSHANBE, October 4, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has imposed temporary ban on sale and use of civilian weapons, according to the Interior Ministry’s official website.

By president’s decree issued on October 2 bearing, possessing, acquiring, manufacturing and using civilian weapons (traumatic guns shooing eight a rubber bullet or a pneumatic bullet and gas guns) are banned till December 31, 2013.

The document notes that the temporary ban on civilian guns is imposed for the purpose of providing security and preventing crimes involving use of civilian weapons.

The official bodies have still refrained from commenting upon the necessity of this decree.

Meanwhile, some local experts said that it could not be ruled out that the passage of that decree was connected with the 2013 presidential election scheduled for November 6.
