DUSHANBE, October 22, 2013, Asia-Plus – A new book about prominent Tajik politician Shirinsho Shotemur has been published in Dushanbe.

Authored by known Tajik journalist Qurbon Alamshoyev, the book entitled “Shirinsho Shotemur in History of Revival of Tajik Statehood” is dedicated to the 115th birthday of Shirinsho Shotemur that will be celebrated in 2014.

Shirinsho Shotemur, known Tajik Soviet statesman, was born in the village of Porshnev, GBAO’s Shugnan district on December 1, 1899.  He was one of the main organizers of the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and directed his efforts to this goal and gave his life for achievement of this goal. Shotemur was arrested in 1937 following fabricated charge of participation in the anti-Soviet nationalistic organization.  He was executed by shooting on October 27, 1937.  Shirinsho Shotemur was buried at the Donskoy cemetery in Moscow.  He was fully exonerated on August 11, 1956.

Shirinsho Shotemur along with Nusratullo Makhsum and other Tajik politicians of that period played an important role in gathering Tajikistan bit by bit.  Thus, Nusratullo Makhsum appealed to Stalin in a letter stating that the program of national-territorial reorganization was unfair and detrimental to their interests.  Together with Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur actively pursued a series of questions about the expansion of borders of the autonomous republic.  Great effort was made so that Khujand and its surrounding regions became part of present-day Tajikistan.

Along with Sadriddin Ayni, Bobojon Ghafurov and Nusratullo Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur was awarded as Hero of Tajikistan.
