DUSHANBE, November 7, 2013, Asia-Plus – The 2013 presidential election was held in Tajikistan on November 6.

The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) declared the election valid at 2:00 pm after the turnout figures passed the 50 percent threshold required to make the polls legitimate.  Some 68 percent of voters have reportedly cast votes by 2:00 pm.

The CCER said yesterday evening that voter turnout in the 2013 presidential election was well above 80 percent as 3,380,068 Tajik nationals cast votes by 6:00 pm.

Incumbent President Emomali Rahmon, who ran against five candidates, is expected to win by a large margin.

The challengers noted that that there were satisfied with the voting process.

Candidate from the Party of economic Reforms, Professor Olim Boboyev, in particular, noted, “I am satisfied with the voting process though there were some inconsiderable shortcomings, but these shortcomings cannot affect the results of outpouring of popular will.”

Tolibbek Bukhoriyev from the Agrarian Party says the election was democratic, free and transparent.  “I have no any serous remarks,” he noted.

Ismoil Talbakov from the Communist Party said that members of his campaign staff had been informed about irregularities in the city of Kulob and the Roudaki district.  He, however, noted that he was satisfied with the voting process.

Saidjaffar Ismonov from the Democratic Party says that he is waiting for good results from his participation in the election.  According to him, the population actively participated and no massive violations of the country’s election legislation were reported.  “Representatives of my campaign staff just registered several cases of multiple voting,” he added.

Abduhalim Ghafforov from the Socialist Party said that he would give his view on the voting process after announcement of the election results.
