DUSHANBE, February 7, 2014, Asia-Plus — Uzbekistan has responded to Tajikistan’s request, allowing more Tajikistan-bound trucks to proceed via border crossing points (BCPs) on the Uzbek-Tajik border.

We will recall that after the Kyrgyz authorities closed BCPs on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Uzbek MFA in late January, asking Uzbekistan to allow more Tajikistan-bound trucks to proceed via the border crossing points on the Uzbek-Tajik border.

According to the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe, Uzbekistan informed Tajikistan on February 6 that now 90-110 Tajikistan-bound trucks will be allowed moving into Tajikistan per day.  “Before that, Uzbek border guards and customs officers managed to let only 10-12 trucks pass through Uzbek BCPs,” the source said.

We will recall that following exchanges of gunfire along the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on January 11 Kyrgyzstan unilaterally closed all BCPs on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
