DUSHANBE, March 19, 2014, Asia-Plus — Last year, Tajikistan imported more than 16.2 million U.S. dollars worth of weapons and munitions, which is 4.8 million U.S. dollars more than in 2012.

Over the report period, some 8.7 million U.S. dollars worth of armament was delivered to Tajikistan by the far abroad countries and little more than 7.5 million U.S dollars worth of armament was delivered to the country by the CIS nations.

Last year, the bulk of armament came from Bulgaria – some 6.2 million U.S. dollars, Russia – more than 4.8 million U.S. dollars, Ukraine – more than 2.7 million U.S. dollars, and India – more than 2.1 million U.S. dollars.

Besides, small amounts of armament were delivered to the country last year from the United States, Israel, Turkey, Romania, and China as well.   

Meanwhile, Tajikistan last year exported only 2,000 U.S. dollars worth of armament to Romania.
