DUSHANBE, April 28, 2014, Asia-Plus — On April 24 and 25, Mr. Yoshishiro Horie, Second Secretary at Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, attended two handover ceremonies held in the districts subordinate to the center.

According the Embassy of Japan, the ceremonies were held to commemorate the successful completion of the projects that were supported by the Government of Japan through its framework of Grant Assistance for Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

On April 24, Mr. Yoshishiro Horie visited Tavildara district to mark the completion of “The Project for Construction of a New Building for Secondary School No.3 in Sangvor Jamoat, Tavildara District.”  The total amount of 109,073 US Dollars was granted to realize the project.

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Himmatsho Ghayratov, Chairman of Tavildara District, extended his words of gratitude to the Government of Japan for supporting this project.

Prior to the project implementation, Secondary School No.3 reportedly did not have sufficient learning space and 25 to 30 students had to study in one classroom that was designed to hold the capacity of 18 students.  Overly crowded classrooms made it difficult for the students to concentrate on their studying.  Now that a new building with five additional classrooms is built, learning environment at School No.3 has been drastically improved, benefiting all the students.

On April 25, Mr. Yoshishiro Horie participated in the handover ceremony and congratulated Mr. Saidamir Siyomardov, Chairman of Nourobod District, on the completion of “Project for Construction of Medical Clinic in Yakhak-Yust Jamoat, Nourobod District.”  The total amount of 109,064 US Dollars was granted to this project. (Due to the name change, Yakhak-Yust Jamoat is now Izatullo Halimov Jamoat.  At the time of the agreement signing, the jamoat was still operating under its former name.)

Through the construction of a new building and upgrading of the medical equipment under the project, the medical point in Izatullo Halimov Jamoat is now able to perform adequate and up-to-date medical services to its patients.  New medical equipment, such as ultrasound scanner, otoscope and ophthalmoscope, were installed for more sophisticated diagnosis and treatment, enhancing overall quality of the medical point.

Japan’s GGP aims to provide support to ensure basic human rights for the people of Tajikistan.  In sectors varying from education, health, agriculture, to gender equality, GGP has supported numerous projects throughout Tajikistan.  Working together with the people of Tajikistan, the Government of Japan is committed to continuing its effort in providing assistance in the needed areas.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  To-date, GGP has reportedly supported 320 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 25.5 million has been provided since 1996.
