DUSHANBE, June 11, 2014, Asia-Plus — One Afghan drug trafficker was killed in crossfire that occurred on the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon province overnight and a large amount of narcotics was seized, the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press center reported on June 11. 

Officers from DCA’s office for Khatlon province jointly with servicemen of border unit “Panj” reportedly warded off an attempt by two Afghan drug traffickers to smuggle a large amount of narcotics into Tajikistan.         

“As a result of skirmish, one of trespassers, who was identified as 45-year-old resident of Afghan Kunduz province, Ghaffar waladi Abdughafour, was killed while another trespasser, Abdullah by name, managed to return to Afghan territory,” the source said.

Hunting carbine, 35 packages of narcotic drug tested positive to hashish weighing more than 13 kilograms and three packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to heroin weighing some three kilograms were found on the spot.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
