DUSHANBE, November 13, 2014, Asia-Plus – A Turkish parliamentary delegation arrived in Dushanbe today morning on a three-day working visit, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament), told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the delegation members include Mustafa Kabakci, Nureddin Nebati and Umar Suha, who are members of a Turkey-Tajikistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Turkish MPs are reportedly scheduled to hold talks with the Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov.

While in Tajikistan, they will also visit Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan upper house of parliament), Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and see sights of Dushanbe, Tursunzoda and Norak, Sultonov said.

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM — Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) is the unicameral Turkish legislature.  There are 550 members of parliament (deputies) who are elected for a four-year term by the D”Hondt method, a party-list proportional representation system, from 85 electoral districts which represent the 81 administrative provinces of Turkey (Istanbul is divided into three electoral districts whereas Ankara and Izmir are divided into two each because of their large populations).  To avoid a hung parliament and its excessive political fragmentation, a party must win at least 10% of the national vote to qualify for representation in the parliament.
