DUSHANBE, December 24, 2014, Asia-Plus — More than 500 international observers are expected to monitor lections to Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament scheduled for March 1, 2015.

“The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) will send invitations to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections to the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCED and a number of countries,” Abdmannon Dodozoda, the head of the CCER’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

502 international observers reportedly monitored the presidential election that took place on November 6, 2013.

Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli).  Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 from party lists (proportional representation) and 41 in single-seat constituencies.  Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
