DUSHANBE, January 4, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Tajikistan state commission on the natural resource reserves has registered additional gold and silver reserves due to approval of possible gold and silver reserves of the Kanchoch deposit in the Zarafshon Valley (Sughd province).

According to the Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan, the possible gold and silver reserves of the Kanchoch deposit are estimated at 32,066.7 and 13,812.7 kilograms respectively.

We will recall that over the first eleven months of this year, Tajikistan has produced more than 3,000 kilograms of gold, which is more than 600 kilograms more than in the same period last year, according the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT)

An official source at a MoINT says more than 1,800 kilograms of gold were produced in the country from July to November this year.

Gold producing companies operating in Tajikistan produced 1,141.1 kilograms of gold over the first half-year of 2014, which was 57.6 kilograms more than in the same period last year.

Last year, gold producing companies operating in Tajikistan produced 2,674.4 kilograms of gold, which was 273.5 kilograms more than in 2012.

Meanwhile, 1,600 kilograms of silver have been produced in Tajikistan in January-November this year, which is 20 kilograms more than in the same period last year.

Over the first six month of this year, Tajikistan produced 943.6 kilograms of silver, which was 43.2 kilograms more than in the same period last year.

Tajikistan reportedly has 28 known gold deposits containing an estimated 429.3 tons of gold.  After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the largest amount of gold was produced in Tajikistan in 1998 – 3,000 kilograms.

Three large gold mining companies now operate in Tajikistan: Tilloi Tojik (Tajik Gold – state-owned gold mining company); Tajik-Chinese JV Zeravshan Gold Company (ZGC); and Tajik-Canadian JV Aprelevka.  Most of gold comes from the Jilau deposit operated by Tajik-Chinese joint venture, Zeravshan Gold Company.
