DUSHANBE, February 11, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) has concluded registration of candidates running for election to the lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of the parliament (Majlisi Oli) in single-mandate constituencies.
“212 candidates have been nominated to compete for 41 seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon in single-mandate constituencies but only 185 of them, including 32 women, have been registered with the CCER, because some of the candidates have withdrawn their candidacies or failed to submit all necessary documents to the central electoral commission,” Abdumannon Dodozoda, the head of the CCER’s office, told Asia-Plus today morning.
Of 185 candidates registered with the CCER, 80 are self-propelled candidates and 105 have been nominated by political parties, Dodozoda noted.
Registration of candidates included in party lists has also been completed. In all, 103 candidates included in party lists will compete for 22 seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament), Dodozoda said.
The 2015 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan will take place on March 1, 2015.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies. Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
