DUSHANBE, April 17, 2015, Asia-Plus — Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Tajikistan to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Rustamjon Soliyev, held talks with UNEECO Director-General, Ms. Irina Bokova, at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on April 15.

The two reportedly discussed state and prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and UNESCO.

Ambassador Soliyev also informed UNESCO Director-General about the progress of preparations for the high-level international conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Life”, 2005-2015, which is expected to take place in the Tajik capital from June 9-11 this year.  

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN).  Its purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the United Nations Charter.  It is the heir of the League of Nations” International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation.  UNESCO has 195 member states and nine associate members.  Most of its field offices are “cluster” offices covering three or more countries; there are also national and regional offices.
