DUSHANBE, May 4, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has reportedly created the second line of defense along its common border with Afghanistan.

“Taking into consideration deterioration of military and political situation in Afghanistan’s Kunduz Province, which borders Tajikistan’s Khatlon Province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Tajikistan together with other power-wielding structures of the country has completed work on creation of the second line of defense along the Khatlon stretch of the Tajik-Afghan border,” an official source at a MoD told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, additional forces have been deployed along the Tajik-Afghan border in the Khatlon Province.

“We are in constant contact with Afghan power-wielding structures and our allies within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO),” the source said, adding that Tajikistan is able to prevent escalation of tension in its areas bordering Afghanistan.
