DUSHANBE, July 9, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Prosecutor-General’s Office on July 8 released a statement, in which it calls the Islamic Revival Party (IRP)’s appeal to the guarantors of the inter-Tajik peace agreement and it previous appeal to the president “populism.”
The statement that is posted on Khovar’s website notes that the IRP has lost its popularity among the population, and therefore, it won only 1.5 percent of votes in the 2015 parliamentary elections.
“The IRP leadership should blame for defeat in the parliamentary elections only the policy chosen by it and not to make unfounded statements,” the statement says.
The statement also notes that the IRP members, seeking crimes committed by the party leadership, are continuing to leave the party. In this connection, the IRP is losing the status of political party, because in accordance with the country’s law on political parties, a political party should have its organizations in the majority cities and districts of the country.
The statement also mentions an illegal privatization of property by IRP leader Muhididn Kabiri 16 years ago.
The Prosecutor-General’s Office notes that 45 members of the IRP have committed various crimes over the past five years. Twenty-two of them have reportedly been jailed for serious crimes such as terrorism, extremism, organizing a criminal group, etc.
The Prosecutor-General’s Office also says that all statements by the IRP leadership on persecution of its members are absolutely “unfounded.”
