DUSHANBE, July 9, 2015, Asia-Plus — Under the norms of the country’s legislation, activity of any officially functioning political party may be stopped by decision made by a congress of the party itself or by a court, Qurbonali Boboyev, the head of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Department for Registration of Public Associations and Political Parties, told Asia-Plus in an interview commenting on the possibility of closure of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRP).
“Neither the Prosecutor-General’s Office nor the Ministry of Justice has the right to ban any officially functioning political party,” Boboyev said.
“Activity of a political party may be stopped only by decision made by a congress of the party itself or by a court,” said Boboyev. “The Supreme Court may ban a political party if it violates requirements of the country’s legislation.”
We will recall that the Prosecutor-General’s Office noted in its statement released on July 8 that the Islamic Revival Party that the IRP members are continuing to leave the party, and therefore, the IRP ,ay lose the status of political party, because in accordance with the country’s law on political parties, a political party should have its organizations in the majority of cities and districts of the country.
