reports that a total of 25 foreign nationals, including children were detained in Turkey”s southeastern province of Gaziantep on July 12 for allegedly trying to enter Syria illegally.

The provincial directorate of security was quoted as saying that the foreigners came from four different countries.

The detainees were reportedly sent to the provincial immigration department after a medical checkup at the Dr. Ersin Arslan State Hospital.

reports that the majority of the detained foreigners were nationals of Tajikistan who were going to Syria with their families.

Turkey shares an 800-kilometer long border with Syria and Turkish officials have repeatedly said that they are cooperating with other countries to stop the flow of foreign fighters into its volatile neighboring countries.

Thousands of foreign fighters from all over the world are believed to have joined terrorist organizations, including Daesh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), in Syria and Iraq.
