DUSHANBE, August 11, 2015, Asia-Plus — Agreements on financing four projects were signed on 10 August in the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan between the Republic of Tajikistan and the World Bank.

As informed by the secretariat of Ministry of Finance of the RT, the purpose of these projects is improvement the quality and access of citizens to the state services such as drinking water supply, irrigation water supply, healthcare and education.

Among the signed projects there is a new one – Project on higher education in Tajikistan that requires 15 million US dollars of financing from the International Association of Development (IAD).

The project will render support to RT both on institutional level and on the systems level for improving and controlling the quality of higher education and its demand in the job market.

The second project implemented with the support of the World Bank was allocated additional financing from IAD in the amount of 10 million US dollars, it will allow expand measures directed on improvement of the quality and sustainability of water supply services for the inhabitants of Dushanbe. Executive body of Dushanbe authorities provides additional 1 million US dollars for implementation of this project.

The second project on providing employment for development of agriculture and water resource management (PAMP – 2) was allocated additional financing in the sum of 12 million US dollars for creating additional opportunities for the temporary employment of ten thousand people from the most vulnerable part of rural population connected to the slow economic growth, decrees in remittances and expected risks in food security of households.

For the current Healthcare Project in Tajikistan there was additional financing allocated from IAD funds in the sum of 10 million US dollars. The project is directed to improving the maternal and child healthcare through the pilot method of financing based on the results of the activities that foresee the motivating payments to increase the coverage and improvement of the quality of services of the primary health care. The additional financing will help expand the project activities to the new districts and provide financing for reconstruction of more than 20 additional institutions of the primary health care assistance.

The agreements were signed by the Tajik Minister of Finance, Abdusalom Kurboniyon, and the World Bank Resident Representative, Patricia Veevers-Carter.
