DUSHANBE, November 12, 2015, Asia-Plus — On November 9, UK Ambassador visited Women Wealth & Influence project sites in Vakhsh and Khuroson districts of Khatlon province.

According to the UK Embassy in Dushanbe, the Ambassador was received warmly by the Women’s Groups (WGs) in both districts, had opportunity to talk to women and familiarize with activities undertaken by WGs to improve their livelihoods and living conditions in their villages, tested national meals prepared specially for the dear guest.

In Vakhsh District (jamoat Tojikobod, village Pakhtakor), members of 7 WGs shared their achievements on creating job opportunities for girls and young women in their community.  They opened sewing workshop and provided more than 100 women from their village with permanent job resulted in increasing living conditions of their families.  They are selling their products in the markets of Qurghon Teppa and in Dushanbe Cities.

Gulpocho Mahmadulloyeva, the head of WG Barakat, reportedly mentioned with pride that they are working not only to improve their family conditions but also contribute in the improvement of their village infrastructure.  For instance they contributed in provision of drinking water and rehabilitation of village road.

In Khuroson District, the Ambassador visited School #50, which was constructed by the initiatives of 3 WGs and supported by the community and educational department of the District.  Fakhrinisso, the head of WG Javoni, said, “Now we are happy as were able to create safe educational environment for our children, who before had to go to school far away from the village crossing high way.  It was dangerous, since two children met accidents, and women were afraid to send their children to the farthest school, and in most cases children remained at home, in particular girls.  Currently with construction of this school in our village mothers are comfortable and are not afraid of the security of their children.”

Women shared not only their achievements, but also their future plan with the Ambassador and responded to questions related to formation of Women’s Groups, spending of their savings and other WGs’ activities.

At the end of the visit the Ambassador thanked members of WGs for their warm welcome and said in good Tajik “I liked this project”. This was a big praise to WW&I project staff and members of Women’s Groups.
