DUSHANBE, November 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) today endorsed a draft law amending the country’s law on the military retirement provision.
Finance Minister Abdusalom Qurboniyon noted that under those amendments, officers of the power-wielding structures should serve no less than twenty-five years in order to retire on a pension.
In 2015, the budget earmarked 159.5 million somoni for payment of pensions of officers of the power-wielding structures, which was 93.5 million somoni more than 2010 and 150.7 million somoni more than in 2005, according to the minister.
“Today, there are more than 20,000 military pensioners in Tajikistan,” Qurboniyon noted.
Meanwhile, some representatives of the country’s power-wielding structures say that initiators of the amendments do not realize that offering such amendments they may undermine peace and stability in the country.
“Those who offered these amendments do not understand or do not want to understand that the number of skilled people wanting to serve in the power-wielding structures will sharply reduce after such amendments and dilettantes or even criminals will take their place,” one of retired law enforcement officers told Asia-Plus in an interview.
