DUSHANBE, January 11, 2016, Asia-Plus — Amendments have reportedly been offered to the country’s Constitution.

A meeting of the board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on January 11.

According to some sources, MP Mahmadali Vatanov suggested that the Majlisi Namoyandagon committees and commissions should discuss amendments offered to the basic law (Constitution) of the country and define a date for referendum on the offered constitutional amendments.

Draft amendments to the Constitution have reportedly been prepared under conditions of secrecy and even parliamentarians are not aware of their essence.

Meanwhile, some experts suppose that the offered constitutional amendments could concern the Constitution’s articles on political parties (ban on registration of political parties of religious nature).
