DUSHANBE, March 31, 2016, Asia-Plus — On March 28, the Head of Public Relations of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan, Yu Ishikawa, visited School No. 15 in Sabzazor Village, Langarishoh Jamoat of Tojikobod District and attended a handover ceremony to commemorate the successful completion of the project supported under the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

“The Project for Construction of an Additional Building for School No.15 in Sabzazor Village, Langarishoh Jamoat, Tojikobod District” was implemented through the scheme of GGP.  The total grant amount of US$99,391 was provided to the local government of Tojikobod District for construction of a new school building with five classrooms and one teachers’ room.  On this occasion, the local government of Tojikobod district also equipped the new school building with new desks, chairs, and blackboards.

During the ceremony, Mr. Ishikawa stated that Japan’s GGP projects have been able to make a true difference by promoting education, improving medical care and creating jobs through construction projects in both remote and densely-populated areas of the country.  He added that these projects also play a vital role in further expanding the bilateral partnership that Tajikistan and Japan have established.

Along with the school’s students, teachers, director and parents, the handover ceremony was also attended by Mr. Husein Alizoda, Chairperson of Tojikobod District, who extended his words of gratitude to the Government and the people of Japan for their support.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support and cooperation with the people of Tajikistan for creating positive impacts on various sectors throughout the country.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  As of today, GGP has supported 352 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 28.5 million has been provided since 1996.
