DUSHANBE, May 30 2016, Asia-Plus – 36 Tajik students who joined terrorist and extremist groups have been killed in armed conflicts abroad, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced on May 27 at the first meeting of the National Council for Youth’s Affairs in Dushanbe.

“According to data of relevant agencies, hundreds of our citizens, with the majority of them being young people, are fighting alongside militants of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria and Iraq.  300 of them have been killed,” President Rahmon said, noting that 36 of those killed were students studying at Tajik and foreign universities.

“Besides, 370 Tajik nationals are still illegally studying at foreign religious schools,” the president noted.

Rahmon ordered relevant ministries and agencies to take adequate measures to remove those shortcomings and strengthen work among youth, especially rural youth.
