DUSHANBE, June 23, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik Ambassador to Russia Imomuddin Sattorov, who is also Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Armenia with residence in Moscow, yesterday met in Moscow with Bishop Yezras Nersisyan, head of the New Nakhichevan and Russian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

According to the Embassy in Moscow, the meeting took place in cathedral and church complex of the Armenian Apostolic Church.   

The two reported discussed issues related to further expansion of cultural cooperation between the Tajik and Armenian peoples.   

Bishop Yezras Nersisyan, in particular, underlined the importance of joint efforts of religious and national leaders to promote further expansion of cooperation between the two peoples.

The Armenian Church complex in Moscow includes a main cathedral, a chapel of the Holy Cross, an educational complex and a residential building for the head of the Armenian church complex, as well as an underground church museum and exhibition hall, a symbolic friendship spring monument and memorial plates.

The Armenian Apostolic Church is the national church of the Armenian people.  It is part of Oriental Orthodoxy and is one of the most ancient Christian communities.  Armenia is an early center of Christianity, and it was the first country to adopt Christianity as its official religion in the early 4th century (traditionally in 301 AD), by establishing this church.  The church claims to have originated in the missions of Apostles Bartholomew and Thaddeus in the First Century.
