DUSHANBE, June 24, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday afternoon met in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain on the sidelines of a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Tajik president’s official website says Emomali Rahmon noted that cooperation between the two countries in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization expanded opportunities for deepening of regional constructive cooperation.

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan was ready to expand cooperation with Pakistan in scientific, educational and cultural sectors.

Emomali Rahmon and Mamnoon Hussain also discussed issues related to participation of Tajikistan and Pakistan in regional energy and transportation projects.

The also discussed issues of the fight against modern threats such as terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking, the Tajik president’s official website said.

, a 24-hour Pakistani English news channel owned by Pakistan Television Corporation, reports that President Mamnoon Hussain has said Pakistan and Tajikistan have immense potential in trade and energy sectors and emphasized on working towards attaining the 500 million dollars bilateral trade volume.  He said that the excellent bilateral relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan should be translated into stronger economic and trade relations.  President Mamnoon Hussain reportedly thanked President Rahmon for Tajikistan”s commitment to the casa-1000 project and referred to it as a milestone in promoting regional connectivity.  He also called for an early finalization of the trilateral agreement on transit trade among Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, which he said would give greater impetus to regional cooperation.
